It's Fair Time!!

It's fair time and the weather in Kansas is PERFECT this year! We enjoyed a wonderful night eating, riding rides and petting farm animals! We ate yummy cheeseburgers, hot dogs, pie, chips and of course cotton candy! This was Ava's first time having cotton candy! She was so cute! She didn't know exactly what to do with it until Morgan and I ate some first! Her face was BLUE by the time she was finished!

The rides are always a blast! The girls went on the Dragons alone! Morgan did a great job taking care of Ava and helping her on the ride!

Dana always takes the girls on the slide! This was Ava's first year! Look at that expression!

I was informed that next year they couldn't wear dresses! Morgan's was not covering everything it should be as she went down the slide!

Ava didn't want to go on the Ferris Wheel, so it was just Morgan and me! The joke every year is "Mommy, are you skinny enough to ride the Ferris wheel?" Because I was pregnant with Ava one summer and couldn't ride!!
Who doesn't love the cute farm animals?? We always have to walk through the barns and pet whichever animal will let us!
Dana couldn't convince Ava to pet a calf!
But she LOVED the bunnies!
I kind of liked them too!
And Morgan thinks we need to bring a few of them home!
Like mother like daughter.....
I have many fond memories of the fair when I was a kid! I loved the Demolition Derby and the animals! One year (I don't remember how old I was) I really wanted to bring home one of the free puppies so I gave the guy my address so he could stop by our house and ask my dad if I could have a puppy!!! When I was a little older I wore one of my mom's shirts and new scarfs (when she told me I couldn't) and accidentally dropped the scarf into the pig pen I was hanging out in and the pig ate her scarf!! And yet again when I was much older, in high school, I remember forcing a friend of mine to ride the Sizzler even after he said he really didn't want to. I should have listened because mid-sizzlin' he began to throw up all over the place!!! OMG! I learned my lesson!

The fair is still in town for another week. We will be going back several times I am sure! Tomorrow night we are going to the Mud-a-thon and next Saturday is the Demolition Derby! And then......summer is over and we all go back to work and school! I guess it was bound to end eventually! It's been an awesome summer, but we have a lot of fun things to look forward to this fall!

San Francisco Photography

I wanted a little something to remember my trip of San Francisco, but I'm not much into cheesy souvenirs so I decided to take a couple of my pictures and enlarge them. These are the 2 that I chose and will be hanging on my wall in a few short days!

San Francisco

I finally made it home from my San Francisco trip Thursday evening. My flight was delayed an hour, but overall wasn't too bad. Got in to KC around 6:30 pm. Dana and the girls were anxiously awaiting my arrival! We got a bite to eat and stopped at the mall so didn't' get home till late last night. I think I slept in till 10:30 this morning! I was tired! Lots of touring around and late nights will do that to a person! I can say that San Francisco is one of my new favorite places to visit and will definitely be making that trip again in the future!

Me in front of the Golden Gate Bridge. We took a Bay Cruise that was about an hour long. I think it was one of my favorite parts of the whole trip! I LOVE being on the water. There is something about the cool bay breeze blowing in your face! So refreshing! I am always at peace near the water! I even got to see dolphins and sea lions swimming near the ferry.

I also got to hang out with a great friend (who lives near Oakland)! :-) He was my tour guide and photographer so I could actually be in some of the pictures!

We also took a trolley ride. That was a little more challenging than I thought it would be. When they tell you they have room for 4 more people if you are willing to stand, you should say no! Holding on was difficult and crowded! I thought for sure I would fall off! This is a picture of another trolley from the trolley I was on.

We hopped off the trolley at Lombard Street (the crooked street). It was pretty neat to see, but by the time pictures were taken the trolley was long gone and we had to walk straight downhill to get to our next destination! Downhill is definitely better than uphill (as I know from experience), but still a challenge!

I love pictures of fishing boats in a marina. I might have to convert this to black and white and hang up somewhere!

I did a little shopping on Fisherman's Wharf to get the girls a little something. Morgan requested seashells. When I couldn't find any on the beach I broke down and bought some! I guess California doesn't have seashells like Florida does!

These sea lions just hang out at the wharf! The picture was taken as our ferry was pulling back in at the end of the cruise.

This picture was also taken from the ferry.

I had so much fun while I was there! I can't even begin to list all of the things I got to do and see. It was relaxing and refreshing and I can't wait to go back! Oh yeah.....and the conference was good too!! :-)

Alcatrez

I arrived in San Francisco on Saturday to attend a Pediatric Nutrition conference. One of the places I wanted to see while here was Alcatrez. On Sunday, I had the chance to ride the ferry on the bay and take a tour! It was a pretty cool place to visit with lots of history. It was a self guided tour. When you arrive they give you a headset that has an audio tour of the building. I especially liked the ferry ride and taking pictures of the old rustic buildings!

I haven't done a whole lot since arriving, but plan to go to Fisherman's Wharf tomorrow. Hopefully, I will have more pictures to post later. I've basically been relaxing, which is always welcome!! Today, I took a nice long walk along the bay and am absolutely in love with this city! I guess it's easy to love being near the water!

Chronicles of Narnia

Last Friday we drove to Kansas City to stay the night so we didn't have to get up so early to get me to the airport for my flight to San Francisco! (Yes, if you hadn't guessed I am in San Francisco!) While there we thought it would be fun to take the girls to the Chronicles of Narnia exhibit at Union Station. I had never been to Union Station, but there are a lot of things for kids to do. Unfortunately, photography is prohibited at Narnia so I don't have many photos to share. It was a fun day for all of us. We also drove to Smithville Lake, dipped our feet in the water and played at the park. And of course for supper we had to eat at T-Rex again, one of our favorite kids places, shop at Legends and get some ice cream at Coldstone!

Go HERE to watch a short video of what we saw in Narnia! It was cool to walk through the snow and touch the frozen waterfall!
